NFC North week 16 run down

Chicago Bears: 10-4, the 2010 NFC North champions (Clinched division with win @ Minnesota)
vs New York Jets (10-4, 2nd in AFC East)

Greenbay Packers: 8-6, vs the New York Giants ( 9-5, 2nd in NFC East)

Minnesota Vikings: 5-9, Vs the Philidelphia Eagles(10-4, first in the NFC East)

Detroit Lions: 4-10, Vs the Miami Dolhpins( 7-7, 3rd in AFC East)

Giants @ Packers
Huge game on both sides of the ball. If these teams have any hopes of making the post season they have to win this game. Packers coming off that tough loss in New England with back up quarterback Matt Flynn as the starter. He played well, and almost led the Packers to a victory. On the other hand the Giants suffered a very bad loss last week from the hands of Mike Vick and the Eagles. Up 21 with 7 minutes to go the Eagles storm back to tie the game, and on a last second miracle Desean Jackson takes back the punt for a 38-31 victory.
That leaves us here, two teams fighting for a chance at the post season. The status on Aaron Rodgers is that he will most likely play this week against the Giants, even with his two concussions this season. With Aaron back this team has its star back under center which gives the Packers a chance to win this football game. Packers have been plagued by injuries this year. One of the biggest ones was runnung Back Ryan Grant, who brought balance to this Packers offense. Packers who have virtually had no running game all season face up against one of the best penetrating defense's in the league. Aaron with have to throw for at least 250 yds, with a couple of touchdowns to have a shot at winning this game.
Giants don't have many problems really with injuries, a few WR are injured but really no others. The Gants were embarrased last week. Giving up a huge 21 point lead to the division rival Eagles. This Giants team wants another shot at the Eagles, they want to get back to the post season. To get back there Eli is going to have to play his best game, and get the ball out quick. Playing one of the best defenive teams in the league, and sack leader Clay Mathews. Justin Tuck, and that D-line will have to play at their best as well.

Prediction: 31-20 Giants, Giants will get into the post season with a win at Lambeau. Eli will play well enough for this team to win the game, and the defense will do the rest. Let's just hope they don't have to punt the ball.

Vikings @ Eagles:
Huge game for the Bears sake, with a Eagles loss, and a Bears win we could clinch the #2 seed. Too bad that won't happen.

Vikings come off two very embarrasing losses to the Bears, and Giants and will now have to face the red hot Eagles on a national level. Joe Webb is schelduled to start this week, but with Brett Favre on the side line you never know. No word on Adrian Peterson as of yet, but lets hope will be healty enough to play. No AP, no Brett this team has no chance. Especially when the defense has been playing the way it has. Giving up over 200 rushing yds to the Giants, and 40 pts to the Bears, who supposedly have a struggling offense.
Eagles on the other hand, have everything to play for, a chance to secure the NFC East, and a #2 in the playoffs. With the little motivation the Vikings will have vs the Eagles battling for a good seed, I see the Eagles taking this one easily.

Prediction: 34-14 Eagles.

Lions @ Dolhpins:
Another meaningless game in the month of December, but this game will be fun for Lions fans. A chance to get their 5th win, and maybe not finish last in the NFC North for a change. Lions playing the 7-7 Dolphins, who can literally not get a win at home to save their lives.
Lions coming off a win over two winning teams the Packers, and Bucs. Got to feel good about yourself, Drew Stanton playing well, the defense playing well. A lot to like about this Lions team. A team that you can no longer look past. This game is all about pride for the Lions.
Dolphins had a shot at the playoffs, and it was blown last week against the Bills. Dolphins once again will finish withan around .500 record for the third consecutive year, and will miss the post season. To them, after a loss like last weeks game, has no meaning to them. Maybe to coach Soprano who has his job on the line after the season ends, but for the players nothing for them to lose.

Prediction: 24-20 Lions get third straight win.

The Bears playoff chances

Bears recently clinched the NFC North, and now have a chance to secure the two seed if they can win out (Or with Eagles losses) All I've heard all week is how one game the Bears can slip up and get knocked out of the playoffs. One Jay Cutler mistake and the dream is over.  I don't understand some of these ESPN so called"analyst." People have seem to forgotten that we win off our defense and special teams, and in the playoffs that is a winning formula. All these analyst can say what they've been saying since last year about Jay Cutler, about his consistency, his football knowledge, and his mechanics. But, they have yet to see how we've even gotten to this point. I would say other than Devin Hester, and all the turnovers we force, Jay Cutler is our biggest asset.  We virtually have no running game with our offense line, so that puts all the pressure on Jay’s shoulders. In 3 & 8 situations this year I would say Jay has bailed out this offense delivering accurate, strong throws into tight coverage.

People also have been saying things about our offense line. Yes, our offensive line is one of the worst, if not the worst in the NFL. But, I say they have gelled and are almost playoff ready. The two concerns I have with our offense line are J'marcus Webb, and Olin Kruetz. Webb, being a rookie 7th round draft pick has held his own this season. He is getting better each and every week, but I have concers with him on one on one situations, and setting back are offesne even more than it should be with false starts. Defensive linemen have burned him this year. Olin Kruetz on the other hand is a great leader; Bear for life, but in the past week's all I've heard his name for is "Holding number 57, 5 yard penalty repeat 1st down." He negates the holding penalties, and J'marcus gets a few blocks we could have something special.

Bears do have problems, but people forget that every team has problems. I like the Bears in the playoffs because we have a playoff ready team. We are very solid in every phase of the game. We are 4-3 at home this season, and I blame two of those loes on are offensive line, and somewhat Jay Cutler. On the other hand we're 6-1 on the road this season, and the one loss was that 10 sack catastrophe in the Meadowlands. We can match the speed of the Eagles offense on defense, Falcons have yet to play a defense of our stature, and the Giants played us at home. I don't see why we can't beat these teams in the playoffs; it will be a challenge, but not a challenge to tough for this Chicago Bears team.

Top ten NFL Week 15 story lines

  1. Matt Flynn almost upsets the super hot Pats on Sunday Night football. Putting up 27 points, and almost winning the game on the final drive.
  2. Jets rebound after two very bad weeks, and beat the AFC North leading Steelers in the Steel city.
  3. Lions win first game on the road in 26 weeks. Snapping the longest away-losing record the league has ever seen.
  4. Devin Hester breaks the NFL all time punt returns for touchdowns record with 14, as the Bears dismantle the Vikings on Monday night.
  5. Ravens vault themselves over the defending champ Saints in a close one at home
  6. Brett Favre decides he is up to play a game the day before the game starts. Gets in goes for a 64 yrd drive, and a touchdown.
  7. Seahawks, Rams, and 49ers all lose badly this week. NFC West champion will probably be 7-9, or 8-8 at best. 4-10 Cardinals are not out of the race yet, pathetic!
  8. Bears take the NFC North which no one believed they could do behind the arm of Jay Cutler, the head of Mike Martz, the defense of Lovie and Rod, and the special teams with Devin Hester.
  9. All the young QB's that started this week and performed (Matt Flynn, Joe Webb, John Skelton, Colt McCoy,...etc)
  10. Desean Jackson and the Eagles score 28 unanswered and pull of the miracle at the Meadowlands part II. A game for the ages, an instant classic!

Thursday

Panthers @ Steelers 10-28, easy win at home on Thursday night over the 2-10 Panthers.

We're in.....

The 2010 NFC North champions: Chicago Bears!

Last season Jay Cutler threw 26 td's, and 28 int's. We go 7-9, and don't make the playoffs. The Bears look like a joke. An average defense, and a terrible quarter back. Now we jump to 2010, coming in to this season we acquire Julius Peppers, Chris Harris, and Chester Taylor. We're picked to miss the playoffs at 7-9, and Jay to have another bad season. We also get Brian back from a season ending injury last season in week 1. We come into this season with a win over Detroit by a slim margin, and a lucky call at the end. A lot of skeptics after that game, but one week after we get a win in big D, and a huge Monday Night Football win over the divisional rival Packers. The Bears then went over a bumpy road by losing 3 out of 4, including losing to two losing teams (Redskins, Seahawks) Going into the bye week we were tied with the Packers for the division. We go into Buffalo and get a win, and that starts a 5 game winning streak. Including wins over the Vikings, Dolphins, and a big statement win over the Eagles.

We then have a match up at home against the very hot New England Patriots. We don't play Bear football in the snow, and get ran over. Setting up this Monday Night match up against the Minnesota Vikings, win and we're in. Showing our division dominance we win 40-14, and take the NFC North. It's been a long journey, seeing Jay and our defense grow. I made a vow to not buy a NFC North championship hat, but only a NFC Championship hat. We could do it, and I think we will.

Halftime at TCF Bank stadium

Bears 17-7 Vikings.

Stats:
Passing
Jay Cutler: 9/15, 142 Yds, 2 td's, 1 INT

Brett Favre: 5/7, 63 yds, 1 td, 1 INT
Joe Webb: 2/2 18 yds

Rushing
Matt Forte: 10/62, Long 14
Chester Taylor: 3/3, Long 5

Toby Gerhart: 12/68, Long 21
Joe Webb: 3/15, Long 6

Receiving
Johnny Knox: 1 rec, 67 yds, 1 td
Earl Bennet: 3 rec, 37 yds
Greg Olsen: 3 rec, 17 yds
Devin Hester: 1 rec, 15 yds, 1 td
Matt Forte: 1 rec, 6 yds

Thoughts
Game could not have started any worse. Brett Favre drives down the field and scored a quick TD. Jay then gets in a is forced to punt. Luckily we stepped it up, and get a deflected ball for a pick (Julius peppers with the pick) We get a FG, and then on 2 penalties, 1st and 30 Jay throws a bomb to Johnny Knox to go up 10-7. Next we get another stop, Corey Wooton sends Brett Favre packing with a sack. Jay drives down the field and throws a strike to Devin Hester, for a TD. 17-7, We get another shot, and without another Jemarcus Webb hold we would have had another touchdown. All that happens, and Jay ends up throwing a pick. Joe Webb can't do anything on offense, and we go into half 17-7.

Solid first half, besides the first drive. Need to start piling on points, and giving the Vikings no hope with Joe Webb in (if Brett Doesn't play, looks unlikely.) We get ball at half, so if we can get another score, or FG. Sustain long drives, we can win this game. Time to Bear Down for one more half!

Tyrell Johnson out with a knee injury

Chicago Bears @ Minnesota Vikings
Tonight in the frozen tundra of TCF Bank stadium we have a big match up for the Chicago Bears. A battle for the NFC north. With Packers loss, a Bears win will put them into the playoffs. Tons of injuries for the Vikings incluing the one and only Brett Favre, but they will fight to the end no mattr what the circumstances in their own state. Must win, playoff implication game here tonight for our Chicago Bears.

Vikings
5-8, The Minnesota Vikings have nothing to lose as they try and play spoiler with third string QB, Joe Webb. Coming off an embarrassing loss to the New York football Giants 21-3, they look for a turn around vs this Chicago Bears team. With tons of injuries it will be a tough battle in the frozen tundra for the Vikings.

Bears
9-4, are one game away from clinching the NFC North title for the first time in 4 years. Jay Cutler and the healthy Chicago Bears will try and rebound from the blowout back home at Soldier Field. No need for motivation here, beat a rival, take the most prestiges division in the NFL. Need to play well tonight.

Keys to the game

  • Bears front 4 needs to show up tonight. Get pressure on Joe Webb especially in the snow. Our defense needs to come out hungry, stop the run and play well throughout the game.
  • Stop AP, most likely the Brett Favre-less Vikings will run the ball. Need to contain the run and put the ball in the hands of the third string QB.
  • No gimmicks on defense, play contain, no throws deep, don't let Joe Webb run over us.
  • Jay Cutler, needs to go back to what he was a week before the Patriots. Good decisions, nothing fancy, good reads, and good throws.
  • Don't let last week and the loss in the snow get to them. Pats beat down on the Bears in the snow, yes. But, this weather is labeled Bear weather, and Minnesota has been in a dome for 25 years now.
  • O-line needs to play well. Matt and Chestnuts need to run over 100 YDS today.
Match ups to watch

  • Bears vs the elements old mother nature wasn't nice to Jay Cutler and the Bears last week. Can they bounce back and play well with the distraction of the weather.
  • Jay Cutler vs his conscience Can Jay forget about last week and clinch the division. Last time he tried to clinch a playoff was with the Denver Broncos, all he had to do is win one game. Same situation, different city.
  • Adrian Peterson vs Bears D Will AP, be all day like his nick name, or will the Bears front 7 show up.
  • Joe Webb vs the hype Vikings are having their 50th anniversary as a franchise. Top 50 Vikings will be in attendance tonight. Will Joe Webb fold under the pressure.
Prediction
Bears understand the importance of this game. Win and have a chance at a super bowl. Vikings are only playing spoiler. Bears will show up this week, and show why they deserve the NFC North corwn and a shot at the Lombardi trophy. Jay, Matt, our defense, and our offensive line will show up tonight at TCF Bank stadium. Prove all the critics wrong.

Pick: 24-10
Bear Down, Chicago Bears! Take the North!

NFC North Week 15 run down

Chicago bears: 9-4, vs the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night. (5-8, 3rd in the NFC North)

Greenbay Packers: 8-5, vs the New England Patriots (11-2, first in the AFC East)

Minnesota Vikings: 5-8, vs the Chicago Bears

Detroit Lions: 3-10, vs the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-5, 3rd in the NFC South)

Greenbay Packers @ New England Patriots
We have a good match up in Foxboro this week, as the Packers take on the Patriots. In a "must win" game for the Packers they will play a team that has clinched a playoff spot, has won 5 in a row, blew out the Jets and Bears, and has a QB playing at the highest level possible. Plus they don't ever lose in Foxboro. This match up is a complete up hill battle for the Greenbay Packers.
Packers might be out of a QB. Star QB Aaron Rodgers suffered a concussion in last weeks lost to the Detroit Lions. Now this team will have to rely on Matt Flynn, who looked like garbage against the Lions defense. Coming into Boston is there any hope for him. Pats defense has stepped up, and has only let up 10 points in the last 2 games. Well you see the Packers rely on their defense. Wrong, the Jets and Bears relied on their defense as well. 36 and 45 put up on two of the top three defenses right now. In spite of all this Packers will be coming out hot, and ready to play. To have any chance of the playoffs they need to get a W on the road. No Aaron Rodgers, who cares.
The Patriots on the other hand are trying to wrap up home field advantage through out the playoffs. A win here would keep the Steelers behind them. It seems as if they do get home field they are a sure lock to go to the superbowl. Tom Brady, and his squad will be ready for the pressure defense of Clay Matthews and the front 7 of the Greenbay Packers defense. No one has been able to beat Tom Brady as of late. Can the cheese pull off an upset they so desperately need.

Prediction: 34-14
No Aaron Rodgers, and a Patriots team that almost literally can't be stopped. I see a blow out here which leaves the door wide open for the Bears.

Detroit Lions @ Tampa Bay Bucaneers
I'm going to keep this short and sweet. Lions once again, like we see every year, are playing for pride. At 3-10 not a lot to cheer for. Coming off a big one for that organization over the rivaled Greenbay Packers. Now travel to the nice, warm Tampa Bay. Raymond James stadium , to play a Buccaneers team that needs a win badly. Back one game in the race for the playoffs to the Giants, they get  a chance to make a push by playing the Lions. Do they take advantage of the week schedule?
I have no word on if Drew Stanton will be starting his third straight NFL game, but at this point it does not matter who is in at QB for the Detroit Lions. Lions play hard physical football, and maybe if they had the ease of the Buccaneers schedule would be 8-5 too, and a chance at a wildcard. Lions are a dangerous spoiler team, kinda like the Bills. Even with their record it's not a game you want to see on the schedule. Almost beat the Pats, almost took down the Jets, and had a chance to beat the Bears. If they can finish out games they might have a decent record at this time of year.
Now the Bucs coming off whatever that debacle in D.C. was. Two missed field goals for Graham  Gano, and a botched extra point to win the game for the Bucs. Ryan Torain ran over this team, and now they face a young Jahvid Best, and don't forget the mobility of Drew Stanton.  If the team can win here they could maybe sneak into the playoffs as the #6 seed. With the Saints coming up they need wins like this.

Prediction: 23-21 Buccaneers escape the Lions
Josh Freeman has showed me he can play, and come back to win football games. Now with the playoffs on the line I believe he can stay calm, cool, and collected to win this game.

Bears @ Vikings coming up later this week......

Monday, December 13, 2010

Vikings are out of the playoff race......officially!

As the clock ticks to 0:00 on this Monday night game it shows us how much can change in just one season. Vikings not too long ago were a few good Brett Favre decisions away from a chance at the Superbowl. Vikings go to 5-8, and now play the Bears next week, but tonight is much bigger than just a big win for the Giants, and  a season ending loss for the Vikings. It ends another era of great quarter backs. Brett Favre ends the streak at 297, and now they have to rely on two mediocre back up QB's. Chilly fired, Brett Favre questioned all year, injuries, and turnovers. What an interesting year for this Vikings squad.

Let's all hope we can bring the same fire this Giants team had this week into the Vikings match up next Monday night. I'm labeling this next game as a must win. We don't want to rely on that new York game to save us from falling out of the playoffs. I'm just glad we get the Vikings at this time, struggling, questioning, and playing bad football.

Any cause for concern in Chicago?

Well, most of you would said no, the Pack lost. WRONG, even with our current situation there is some cause for concern in Chicago. We are first place, and we only really need to win one more game to clinch a playoff spot. Here are some major concerns coming into are next 3 games:

Concerns:

  •  We just lost 36-7 to an elite team. Got crushed in all three phases of the game.
  • Now tied with the Eagles, and have to probably win out to get a bye in the playoffs.
  • Front 4 has slowed down Tremendously the last 2 games.
  • We have the jets, Viks, and Pack next three weeks.
  • Can't defend underneath. Multiple QB's have scorched us in that area ( Tom, Aaron,...etc.)
  • We have had trouble in every game this year. At home, and on the road.
Like I said in post before, we have one week to get ready for a revitalized Vikings football team. Sidney Rice back, Defense playing well, Lovie needs a heck of a game plan if he wants to win this game on Monday night. Luckily we'll get to watch the Pats beat up on the Cheese before our showdown, and see where we stand. More on these match ups coming up this week.

In other news:
Brett favre ruled inactive for tonights game against the Giants. The record is set at 297, 3 away from 300 games in a row. As a Bears fan, I applaud him on this accomplishment, and I'm glad his reign of terror is finally over. He was a great watch through out the years at Green Bay, and Minnesota. The league will miss his late game heroics, and his will to win the football game. I will miss seeing the Monsters of the Midway throwing his old scrawny a*s being thrown to the ground.

Also, the Ravens and Texans game. Big game for the Ravens, and Texans need to win if they have any hope of making the playoffs.Zzzzzzz

Ravens @ Texans: 17- 7 Ravens get one back at home.

Here are my picks up to this point....

A day later....

Yes, it looks bad right now for the Chicago Bears right now, with a 36-7 romping in Soldier Field at the hands of the only NFL playoff team, the New England Patriots. It's not all that bad. We still are first in the NFC North, and second overall in the NFC. We loss the game, but we still have a big game coming up against the Vikings. Packers have the hottest team in the NFL next week, the Pats.  With a Packers loss, all the Bears have to do is win and they're in.
The defense might have dropped 3 picks, and 2 in the red zone. Jay Cutler might have fumbled, and thrown 2 picks. Johnny Knox might have fumbled for a Patriots TD, and dropped a couple of balls. Yes, all those things happened but at the end of the day (even with a loss) we are one game closer to clinching the NFC North. It's time to re-focus, and say we are not as good as we thought. We have to work for our wins, even the defense. We have a huge opportunity this weekend. Time to make some noise in the NFC.

because once your in the playoffs, anything is possible. Last team that got blown out by New England in the snow was the 2008 Arizona cardinals....need I say more?

Bear down literally....

 Patriots 36-7 Bears:

Tons of story lines coming before the kick off. How would the weather affect the game. Mike Martz vs Bill Belicheck, and much more. At the final whistle there were no more questions just answers. This game showed us that the New England Patriots, and Tom Brady are the best team in football. It also showed us that our beloved Bears have a load of work to do before they can call themselves a power house in the NFC. The Blizzard bowl was just a straight, good o'l fashion ass whoopin by the Patriots.
Tom Brady was perfect once again, throwing for 27 completions on 40 attempts, and a season high 369 yds.  Once again the Patriots defense plays at a high level and wills their team to the W. Each week this Patriots defense gets better and better. It showed here in week 14.On the other side of the ball,  Little Danny Woodhead, Deion Branch, and Wes Welker burned the Bears secondary today. Today showed us that the Patriots are the best team in the NFL, and have the best coach, and player.
Let's face it Bears played like sh*t, and got beat to sh*t. The things is the Patriots have been doing this all year. best offense in the league, scoring 30 pts/game. Bears up to this point gave up 16 pts/game. The "Monster of the midway" gave up 33 in the first half. The defense looked uninterested. Once we got down 21 all the fight, and effort we had left us and went out the window. Truly a pathetic effort on both sides of the ball. Jay was 12/16, 152 yds, and 2 picks. Mike was out coached, and it showed. Not a lot we could do on offense. The one positive coming out of this game is our special teams. Daniel Manning, and Devon Hester gave us good field position all day.

Next week we have the Minnesota Vikings at home, but with all this distraction going on with the Vikings we have a good chance to win that game. Preview post coming up this week.

Other news:
Lions beat the Packers 7-3, and Aaron Rodgers sidelined with a concussion. Next week the Packers have the Pats next week in Foxboro. New England Patriots @ Chicago Bears
Tom Brady vs Jay Cutler, great match up too watch in Chicago this weekend. Israel Idonje, Julius Peppers,  Tommie Harris, Anthony Adams, and Matt Toeina vs the great Patriots O-Line and Tom Brady.

Patriots:
10-2, first in the AFC East. Another big game for them this week as they need to stay ahead of the Jets.

Bears:
9-3, first in the NFC north. Huge game here need to get that tenth win to have any shot at the playoffs. With a win at home over the Patriots would be a huge boost to this teams confidence.

Keys to the game:

  • Bears need to control the game clock. Need to keep that explosive Patriots offense (30 pts/game) off the field
  • Jay needs to play his best game. Needs to think with his head, and not his arm.
  • O-Line has to contain , especially on the run. Matt Forte can run on this young Patriots defense.
  • Mike Martz must out coach Belicheck, out smart him.
  • Use the field, and weather to your advantage. 50 MPH winds.

Match ups to watch:

  • Tom Brady vs Jay Cutler: Will Brady continue his dominance scoring 30 pts a game. Will Jay be the Jay we've seen the last 3 weeks. Doesn't throw red zone picks, makes good reads, and makes plays with his feet.
  • Belicheck vs Martz: Belicheck has out coached every coach in the last decade. Will he be able to figure out Mike Martz, and this Bears offense who has shown signs of greatness at times.
  • Rookie WR vs Bears veteran secondary: Will Danny Woodhead continue to pick apart defense's after the catch. With Pisa, and Nick Roach out at LB will they be able to hit us in that part of the field. Chris Harris, Major Wright, and Daniel Manning need to be at their best today.
  • Bears special teams vs Patriots special teams: Can the Patriots stop one of the most productive special team units in the league. Will Devin Hester gives us good field position.

Prediction:
The Patriots playing the best football maybe of all time. Saying that can the Pats keep that rolling coming into the Windy City, with 50 MPH, snowing, and the Chicago faithful behind them. Working on a short week, Mike has had time to pick match ups, and plays he wants. We all know Brian, and that front 7 will come ready to play for the Bears, against that Patriots O-Line. Great match up here, A must watch!

Pick: 24-21 Bears!
I think this team is on a mission to prove critics wrong, and they will show it on Sunday. it will be a tightly contested game, but Bears will come out on top!

BEAR DOWN!

Key:
*: game to watch
**: Must watch.
***: Game for the ages!

NFC North Breakdown

Bears: 9-3, Vs New England Patriots(10-2, 1st in the AFC East)

Packers: 8-4, @ Detroit Lions (2-10, 4th in the NFC North)

Vikings: 5-7, Vs New York Giants (8-4, 2nd in the NFC East)

Lions: 2-10, Vs GreenBay Packers (8-4, 2nd in NFC North)

Packers @ Lions:
Packers coming off a win at home over the San Fransisco 49ers 34-16, and another steller performance by the "great" Aaron Rodgers. Lions on the other hand lose to the Chicago Bears 24-20, and now are tied for a league worst 2-10 record.  Packers in their previous match up week 4 won by a slim 2 point margin at home. How do the pesky Lions fare this week without there star quarterback, and decent back-up Shaun Hill?
Lions play good strong, physical football, and are always in late in games. 8 games separated by only 8 or more points. Jets had all they could handle in week 9 as they had to force OT, and barely squeak out a win in the Field House. Last week the 9-3 Bears, who just the week before beat the "So-called" best team in the NFC handily, and the Lions had a lead going into the fourth. Maybe a few calls, and plays go their way and this team has either a winning record or close to. The Lions have lost 5 straight, and with almost all their QB's out they rely on the ready arm of Drew Stanton. Who did a bang up job in Detroit last week. He kept them in the lead late in the game, and gave them a chance to win. If he can manage his team, and play well. The Lions have a chance of winning this game.
Packers are now 8-4, and are on the tail of the Chicago Bears. A must win for the Packers as the Bears take on the Patriots.  Packers are somewhat healthy, and playing good football. Going into the field house this week can Aaron pull out another great performance to get them past the Lions. Packers play 3 winning teams (@Patriots, Giants, Bears) right after this game, and if they lose they will still be back one game of the Bears. Aaron needs to step up and play well if this team has any hope of making the playoffs.

Prediction: (Might be a little biased, but I truly believe this) 21-14 Detroit Lions at home.

I like the way the Lions are playing. I know it's a third string QB, but Jahvid Best in running down hill and hard. Plus play makers like Calvin Johnson. Green Bay is too one dimensional.  Suh, Vanden Bosch (if he plays) are too big of a challenge. I got the upset this week.

New York Giants @ Minnesota Vikings:
Uh oh, here comes the Vikings.Winning two in a row under the helm of Leslie Frazier (1985 Bears, Superbowl shuffle!) But then we got the New York Giants coming off a big win against the Redskins at home 31-7. The big story coming out if this game really is if Brett Favre will start for the Vikings? Not practicing all week not even today. The record looks just about over, but we all know Brett Favre if he feels he can help his team. He will do what he can to play.
Brett Favre, or no Brett Favre Vikings have a big opportunity to win this game at home, and get to 6-7. Vikings just recently got their star wide out Sidney Rice back from injury. He played very well last week in the win over the Bills catching 5 balls for 105 yds, with 2 touchdowns. That is the deep threat they wanted from Randy Moss. AP, is also running down hill, and destroying tacklers in front of him. 3 touchdowns last week in Minnesota against the Bills. He also rushed for 107 yds are 16 carries. And finally Jared Allen, and that mean Vikings D-line has come to play. Tough for any opponent when the Vikings are clicking on all cylinders.
Giants, on the other hand, have almost a must win as they are tied for first place in the NFC East with the Philadelphia Eagles. Giants have won 2 straight, but are still not playing their best football. Now that the Eagles have the tie breaker they need a couple of wins to win a wildcard birth. Upcoming schedule is tough (Eagles, @Packers, @Redskins) getting a win here on the road would be a huge boost for this team.Eli doing an decent job keeping this team in games. He showed resiliency two weeks ago at home playing the Jaguars. Just lost two straight and their playoff chances dying right before there eyes. Eli then hits, Kevin Boss, and Mario Mannigham for touchdowns to win the game. With the D playing outstanding. Totally shutting down Donavon McNabb, and the Redskins offense. All Eli has to do is manage the game, run the ball, and don't make stupid mistakes like he has been doing often this season.

Prediction: 31-21, Vikings

I like the Vikings at home this weekend. No Brett Favre (Maybe) but with Tevares having fresh legs, and Adrian Peterson finding life after the firing of Brad Childress. I see this team pulling the upset.

I will have a whole different post on the Pats @ Bears game. Stay tuned!
